SphereGen Case Study

Our client, EyeLux Integrations, is the creator of a therapy program which delivers Optometric Multi-Sensory Training in support of Syntonic/Optometric Phototherapy. This program uses a hardware component called a Lightbox.

EyeLux needed software components for the program to allow customers to apply settings to the Lightbox, track patient feedback and handle subscriptions/invoicing. SphereGen developed a Windows application for controlling Lightbox integration and settings, along with a web portal for tracking client and patient information.

Dr. Steven Curtis of EyeLux Integrations created a unique solution for delivering an Optometric Multi-Sensory Training (OMST) program which supports the industry of Syntonic/Optometric Phototherapy. The core of this program is hardware technology called Lightbox which delivers phototherapy through colored filters. The OMST program includes a mix of visual, audio, vestibular and somatosensory stimulations which are determined based on the needs of the patient.

Challenges

The OMST program created by Dr. Curtis includes a mix of sensory stimulations which are controlled by settings. However, to facilitate ease of use, those settings needed to be integrated and managed by one single point of control. Tracking these settings and patient feedback was a manual process. Maintaining records of sales and invoicing were also handled manually. The OMST program needed software components which integrated all hardware devices, presented a front end to control the hardware settings, a database to log and track patient information, and a subscription/invoicing system to automate orders and payments.

SOLUTION

SphereGen worked with EyeLux to create two software applications. The first is a Windows application to control the send and receive of data to the Lightbox. The second, a full-service web portal which integrates all OMST technologies providing an application for scheduling and tracking patient therapies, controlling therapy settings, receiving data feedback regarding technology performance, and managing subscriptions including billing and payment. The solution was completed in phases:

Phase 1: Windows application to integrate to all optical devices with the ability to send program settings to the device through a graphical user interface

Phase 2: Full-service web portal which includes management of Admin, client, patient information and recording of program data

Phase 3: Integrated functionality for subscription licensing and payment, graphical dashboard for data visualization

RESULTS

Web Portal and Stripe Integration remove manual tracking and billing

THE DETAILS

Dr. Curtis’ creation of an Optometric Multi-Sensory Training (OMST) program using patented Lightbox technology provides the ability to deliver game-changing Optical therapy for patients experiencing disruptions to multi-sensory processing. The development of this program allows optometrists to expand their practice and further help patients, by having the ability to offer OMST. To enable the program/product to be easily deliverable and saleable, 2 software components were required.

OUR APPROACH

Lightbox Integration

To send control settings and receive data from the Lightbox device, SphereGen built a Windows application with a graphical user interface to initiate communication to the device through the USB port on a tablet. The Windows application runs on the tablet which is supplied with the Lightbox. Therapy programs with a list of settings are stored in Program Libraries as scripts. When a program is selected, the application sends the associated script to the device which applies the settings. When the program has finished, the device sends back a command to notify the Windows application that the program has completed.

Web Portal

EyeLux needed a way to provide their Optometry Clients with a full application for tracking patient information, scheduling patients and recording results. SphereGen built a web portal with data storage in the cloud. EyeLux can setup and provide Admin support to their clients with maintenance features for their therapy program libraries.

The portal provides flexibility to clients by allowing them to adjust program settings based on patient needs. Clients maintain their own patient data, tracking therapy history and feedback with custom notes recording. The portal also integrates with the Windows application which communicates with the Lightbox device. With part of the OMST program offering audio stimulation, the device integration initiates the playing of music from the tablet.

The last phase of the project included adding a graphical dashboard for visually analyzing results.

Subscription Maintenance and Billing

To complete the overall OMST program, the web portal was enhanced to include subscription ordering, maintenance and payment integration. Clients can place orders for monthly or yearly subscriptions and pay on-line through Stripe integration. EyeLux reports on completed orders to ready materials for shipping to clients. Reporting is also available to track invoices, payments and subscription expiration.

CONCLUSION

Dr. Curtis of EyeLux Integrations created an innovative therapy program, Optometric Multi-Sensory Training (OMST), using patented technology to make a difference for patients experiencing disruptions to multi-sensory processing.

In order for this program to be easily distributed for use in other Optometric practices, the program needed a Windows application and web portal to provide device integration and data tracking/management. SphereGen built both needed software applications over several phases, to complete the overall summation of the program. Development included the following areas:

  • Windows application to send and receive data settings to the Lightbox optical device
  • Ability to build therapy program libraries which include variable settings according to patient diagnosis
  • Web portal for Admin, Client and Patient data tracking
  • Subscription and Payment integration
  • Reporting and dashboard for data analysis

As a result, the ability for patients to receive this life-changing therapy can be scaled indefinitely as new Optometry Practices sign on for the program. EyeLux Integrations has offered their OMST programs with Lightbox technology to Optical practices across North America.
