O V E R V I E W

A local startup company had launched a mobile app which offered a subscription-based application and coaching program to manage diabetes. They needed a companion website to serve as a marketing source as well as a portal for the web-based version of their application. The purpose of the portal is to create accounts, take subscription payments, record entry of personal and biometric information, then suggest content including blogs and video stream, according to the biometric statistics which are entered.

Challenges

Our client needed the web application to be built quickly to coincide with a major global application release. The web application needed to include the following:
  • Responsive design to work on multiple browsers and devices
  • Leverage content from AWS cloudfront
  • Media player which streams well across multiple platforms
  • Language localization Solution
  • Air Play for content delivery and API integration
  • User Profile and Subscription management
  • Optimized performance for large number of users
  • Improved Content Tagging

SOLUTION

SphereGen was able to deliver a fully functioning companion website for our client’s mobile app within 3 months.

The application provided user registration with a support helpdesk and subscription tracking through an interface to the Stripe payment platform. Deployment encompassed complete performance and optimization testing across multiple browsers and operating systems. Application functionality present in the mobile app was completely mirrored on the website including biometrics data entry and tracking, content search and suggestion based on current biometrics, past content selection, and the ability to effectively stream video in countries across the globe. Our client was able to meet their deadline for their global launch with no issues resulting from high site traffic.

THE DETAILS

When creating the companion website and portal for our customer’s existing mobile app, multiple challenges needed to be met in a tight timeframe. Our approach in addressing the build is found below.

OUR APPROACH

Scalable Architecture

A main goal in building the website portal was to establish a scalable architecture which can be easily maintained. We used an Angular framework with Bootstrap which supports multiple web browsers and responsive screen sizing on any device. In addition, we used Node JS for cross platform compatibility and scalability.

Multiple Languages

Our customer anticipated a large spike in subscribers across the globe, as their product was being sponsored by a major healthcare organization. Both the mobile and web applications were built for multi-lingual capabilities using an optimized approach.

Content Tagging, Search, Tracking, Notification

The application provides and suggests appropriate content (exercise plans, blogs, videos) according to a subscriber’s biometrics. A front end was needed to easily tag content when loaded, to satisfy a subscriber’s search and assignment. Content which was assigned or selected is tracked by subscriber so that content be chosen again, or similar content can be suggested. All of this was tracked using AWS cloud storage.

Payment Integration

Our customer used Stripe for payment integration. Stripe supports processing currencies in over 100 countries. Both the mobile app and website were setup to integrate to Stripe via APIs.

CONCLUSION

By relying on a strong framework with a scalable design, our client was able to achieve all goals to build a companion site to their mobile app. Our use of the Agile methodology combined with a strong technical team kept the project on track to achieve site deployment within a short timeframe. The site and portal were deployed on time to coincide with a successful launch for a major sponsorship which resulted in new subscribers around the globe.
